Western International Relations Scholars’ Attitude toward Marxist International Relations Theories

多数西方国际关系学者认为除了列宁的帝国主义理论,马克思主义没有为国际关系理论研究做出贡献。现实主义和自由主义从方法论和研究内容上批评列宁的帝国主义理论,指责列宁的帝国主义理论经不起实证检验。面对这些批评,西方马克思主义学者总结了马克思主义国际关系思想的特征,批判了主流国际关系理论的超历史性,运用马克思主义观点和方法阐释了国家和国际体系的历史性。这些研究丰富了对全球化与民族国家间关系的认识,剖析了2008年全球性金融危机的深层根源,彰显了马克思主义国际关系思想的理论价值和时代价值。

According to most Western international relations(IR) scholars,Marxism has little to offer for IR except the imperialist theory by Lenin.Lenin’s theory has been criticized by both realists and liberals on methodological and empirical grounds, faulting it for failing to live up to reality. In response,by using Marxist concepts and methods, Western Marxist scholars have summarized the characteristics of Marxist thinking on international relations, criticized the ahistorical nature of mainstream IR, and highlighted the historicality of nation-states and the international system. These efforts have enriched our understanding of globalization and inter-state relations, and shed light on the root causes of the 2008 financial crisis. They bear witness to the theoretical value and timeliness of Marxist thinking on international relations.
