The experience of trauma has become inescapably entwined with current global and digital mediascapes since the 9/11 attack. Due to the new channels of information dissemination, trauma texts have transcended unspeakability to actualize empathy, processuality and dialogicity; and the extensive media coverage of the traumatic events urges people to rethink the virtuality of trauma experience as well as the collective cultural trauma memories catalyzed by nationalism. Katharina Donn’s book A Poetics of Trauma after 9/11: Representing Trauma in a Digital Present discusses the challenge and prospect of trauma narrative in post-9/11 context, and calls for an ethics of trauma narrative by setting new parameters for understanding trauma and its representations in literature.
