The black slaves' living condition in colonial Pennsylvania was the epitome of slavery in American North. Black slaves contributed a lot to Pennsylvania' s economic production, especially in the urban area, but black slaves were never the core and indispensable workforce in colonial Pennsylvania. Black slaves * life was struggling between bondage and freedom. While black slaves had to endure the slaveholders' exploitations and oppressions, they could still take advantage of their residual rights to resist the slaveholder5 s control and build their own cultural and community identity. The Pennsylvania black slaves were emancipated gradually during American Revolution.
