The Paratextual Study of Julia Lovell 's English Translation of The Complete Fiction of Lu Xun

本文试图撼动鲁迅小说英译本的研究路径,即仅侧重于翻译正文本的研究模式,全面考察译本的副文本因素,弥补传统翻译研究的不足。通过对蓝诗玲鲁迅小说全集英译本的内外副文本的考察,详细梳理副文本在促进译本传播中所起的架构作用,为今后中国文学作品的海外译介提供新思路。鉴于该译本已成功入选"企鹅经典"丛书(Penguin Classics)系列,译本被美国加州大学中国现代史专家华志坚称为"可能是有史以来最为重要的企鹅经典",副文本作为该译本的有机组成部分,对其研究有助于开拓当前中国文学"走出去"的新途径。

This paper attempts to shake the research path of English translation of Lu Xun's novels, that is, focusing only on the research model of the translation of the original text, and comprehensively examining the factors of the paratexts of the translated version, so as to make up for the deficiencies of traditional translation studies. By investigating peritext and epitext of the English versions of Lovell’s The Complete Fiction of Lu Xun, this paper explores the contribution of paratexts to promoting the translated versions, and provides new ideas for the translation and introduction of Chinese literary works abroad in the future. In view of the successful selection of the translation into the Penguin Classics series, Jeffrey Wasserstorm, an expert in modern Chinese history at the University of California, USA, insists that the translation is “probably the most important Penguin Classic in history”. As an integral part of the translation, the study of the paratext will help to open up a new way for Chinese literature to “go out”.
