Proper noun translation is one of the most heatedly discussed topics in the translation studies in the recent years. The proper noun is not only the cultural factor of Tang poetry, but also the name card of Chinese culture. The translation circle has discussed some proper noun translation of Tang poetry, but has almost not touched upon Stephen Owen's proper noun translation. This paper tries to explore the translator's cultural identity, interpretation and variation behind the relationship between the name and the nature of translation, through the discussion of translation consistency of "name" with "nature",shift of "name" into "nature" and inconsistency of "name" with "nature".Owen's proper name translation works as the substantial basis for his Tang poetry interpretation, also it is helpful to the proper noun translation in both Chinese literature and the social life.
