A Study on the Chongqing Branch of Architectural Theory and History Research Office

建筑科学院建筑理论与历史研究室是新中国建国后至"文革"前中国建筑历史与理论研究的重要学术机构。重庆分室作为该研究室仅有的两个分室之一,对包括古建筑、民居与历史园林的在内的地区建筑遗存开展了广泛的调查研究,参与了中国建筑史多个稿本的编撰,探索了历史和地方传统与建筑创作的结合,并着手译介了多个语种的外国建筑文献,形成了特色鲜明的学术成果。

The Architectural Theory and History Research Office set up by the Architectural Science Academy of China was the most influential research institution of the area during the 1950-1960 s. The Chongqing Branch, as one of the only two branches of the Research Office, has carried out a series of investigations and researches on architectural history and theory and achieved significant results. Aside from its participation in compiling "Three Histories of Chinese Architecture",the Chongqing Branch also unfolded investigation and research of the early architectural remains, vernacular settlements and historic gardens of southwest China, and explored the integration of historic and regional traditions with contemporary architecture creation. Furthermore,the scholars of the Chongqing Branch also made precious efforts on the introduction and translation of a series of foreign architectural literature during that unusual era. The achievements of the Chongqing Branch have broadened the academic horizon and enriched the achievements of the area, whose influence lasts even until today.
