Create a youthful China: Li Dazhao’s concept of youth mission during the May Fourth Movement

五四时期,中华民族处于水深火热之中,为救民族危亡,先进的思想者普遍将希望寄托于青年身上。李大钊也关注青年在民族复兴中的地位,提出了青年以创造生气活泼的“青春中华”为唯一使命,阐释了将创造“青春中华”的使命赋予青年的原因,指出了青年实现民族复兴的方向为勇于追求马克思主义真理、努力于当下、主动同人民群众相结合及凝聚团结在无产阶级政党周围。在中国特色社会主义新时代,李大钊的创造“青春中华”思想对于广大青年践行中华民族伟大复兴的历史使命依然有着重要的启发意义。

During the May Fourth Movement,the Chinese nation was deeply fallen into predicament.To save the nation from peril,advanced thinkers generally were putting their faith on the youth.Li Dazhao also paid attention to the role of youth in national rejuvenation.He proposed that the only goal of the youth was to create a vibrant and lively youthful nation.He explained the reasons why the mission of creating a youthful China is entrusted to the youth.He pointed out that the direction for the youth to realize national rejuvenation is to pursue the truth,strive for the moment,mingle and mix with the people and unite around the proletarian party.In the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics,Li Dazhao’s thought of creating a youthful China is still of great enlightening significance for the majority of young people to practice the historical mission of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
