The Publication of African Literature in New China and Its Features

非洲文学在新中国的出版取得了一定的成果,阿契贝、马哈福兹、索因卡、戈迪默等重要作家的译介都较为全面及时。但总的来说,非洲文学出版总量低、出版走势弱、出版热点少。这部分是由于南部非洲书面文学没有悠久的传统,部分是因为中国读者对于非洲文化及文学有着刻板印象、各界对于非洲文学的了解程度也较低。

The publication of African literature in New China has gained some achievements. The literary works of those important writers, like Achebe、Mahfouz、Soyinka and Gordimer, have been translated comprehensively and introduced timely. However, it still accounts for a rather small percentage of the total publication, remains at a publishing ebb in a long period of time, and receives little popularity. This is partly due to the lack of a long tradition of written literature in southern Africa and partly out of the reason that most Chinese readers hold stereotypes about African culture, which hinders people’s understanding towards its literature.
