新桂系时期广西少数民族社会风俗改良述论

On the Improvement of Social Customs of Ethnic Minorities in Guangxi in New Guangxi Clique

广西偏处西南,少数民族聚居,地瘠民贫,长期以来经济滞后,社会发展水平不高,形成了诸多陋俗。民国时期,新桂系统治广西后,为增强与蒋介石抗衡的力量,实行了以同化为旨向的民族政策,开展了社会风俗改良运动,取得了一定的成绩。少数民族的许多陋俗被革除,社会风气渐为好转,但并未能从根本上改变其社会风俗。

Located in southwest and inhabited by ethnic minority, Guangxi was poor and so were the people with many bad customs due to long-time backward economy and the low level of social development. In Republican China, after the rule of the New Guangxi clique, to strengthen the power to contend against Jiangjieshi, the ethnic policy aimed at assimilation was implemented, and the social customs improvement movement was carried out with some achievements. Many bad customs have been abolished and social morality has gradually improved, but their social customs have not been fundamentally changed.
