The acceptance condition of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings in China presents a distinct intergenerational contrast. The younger generation is actually more deeply placed in the ″postmodern situation″ of the grand narrative disintegration, and is therefore more inclined to obtain an alternative type of quasi grand narrative from the grand and self-consistent worldview setting system of the fantasy literature, hence obtaining a compensatory spiritual experience. The literary readers of the older generation, relying on some aesthetic psychological mental set established by the realist literature, tend to antecedently reject the overhead setting of the fantasy literature, which makes it hard for them to achieve the immersive experiences enjoyed by fantasy literature lovers.
