Objective: To explore the clinical effect of Saccharomyces boulardii and the combined Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, Enterococcus and Bacillus in the treatment of pediatric rotavirus gastroenteritis and its influence on the course of disease. Methods: Eighty-eight cases of children with rotavirus gastroenteritis were selected and divided into a control group and an observation group with 44 cases each by a digital random table method. All of the patients were given routine treatment and besides, the control group was treated with the combined Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, Enterococcus and Bacillus and the observation group with Saccharomyces boulardii. The clinical effects and the duration of disease course were compared between the two groups. Results: The excellent and good rates of clinical efficacy were significantly higher in the observation groups than the control group (95.45% vs 86.36%, P<0.05). After the treatment, the number of stools, the duration of diarrhea, the fecal rotavirus negative conversion time and the fever abatement time were significantly less in the observation group than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The Saccharomyces boulardii for the treatment of pediatric rotavirus gastroenteritis can significantly improve the clinical effect of patients and has important clinical value in reducing the frequency of diarrhea and shortening the course of disease.
