军记物语在历史叙事中引入了大量的中国历史人物。军记物语作者经常先讲“异朝大国”的先例,再提“本朝日本”的人物事迹。有的中国历史人物故事被作者用来衬托作品主线人物的心境,但更多的中国历史人物被当作一种典范来评判本朝人物行为是否正当。作者也根据其创作指向对中国历史人物形象进行加工,中国历史人物的形象在日本文学漫长的流布过程中发生了嬗变。
