A comprehensive investigation of the cognate words of Shuowen Jiezi(Chinese:说文解字)is helpful to fully reveal the significance of the book to the study of lexicology.Starting with the explanation of Dao(Chinese:刀)Part of Shuowen Jiezi,this paper comprehensively analyzes the cognate words involved in it,and reveals the advantages and disadvantages of their explanations,in order to provide a reference for making full use of the book to explore cognate words.
