This invention relates to a three-part organic binder system for use in the cold box or no bake process. The organic binder system is mixed with molding material for sand casting in the metals industry. The organic binder system has three parts, the first two of which are conventional and are used in the cold box or no bake process. Of these, the first and second components are a first organic binder component and a second organic binder component, the second component being complementary to the first organic binder component to form a polymer in the presence of a catalyst. In one embodiment, the first component is a polyol component, comprising a phenolic base resin with at least 2 hydroxy groups per molecule, the polyol component being devoid of polyisocyanates.
