Three English versions of Guan ju are selected in this paper. The translators Arthur Waley,Yang Xianyi & Gladys Yang, and Xu Yuanchong have different cultural identities. Through the analysis of three English versions,it is found that as a Jewish translator who has lived in Britain,Waley usually use literal translation and occasionally alters it to take care of western readers;as translators with both Chinese and Western cultural identities,Yang Xianyi and his wife elaborate the ideas and connotations in the origi- nal poem in straightforward English. Xu Yuanchong,a patriot with national cultural identity, pays more attention to the reproduction of the style and connotation of the original poem in the translation.
