56 critical essays on operas published since 1990s were collected in LIU Zhen’s critical commentary Opera: Criticism and Standpoint which demonstrates the systematic and theoretical critical thoughts on operas of the author. The commentary is divided into six dimensions: adherence to opera ontology, the conscious observation of national aesthetic criteria, the dialectical thinking of the tradition and the modern, the reflections on the historical events and individual destiny, the upholding of fairness and conscience, and the return to the sites and identity proof. The return to the academic standpoint runs through the whole book with a principle of arguing with benevolence, listening with eagerness to learn and distinguishing with impartiality.
