Great changes have taken place in the transmission modes of political discourse due to the development of new media technology. In view of this, the present article takes Microblog-based circulations of the Communiqué of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th Communist Party of Chi na Central Committee ( hereafter the Communiqué) as examples, and tries to analyze the phe nomenon of recontextualization and the involved transformation of meanings by integrating Bhatia's ( 2006;2010;2015;2017) Critical Genre Analysis with Fairclough's ( 1992) conceptu alization of intertextuality. Through analysis, this article finds that the recontextualization of polit ical discourse on new media embodies the shifts from static to dynamic, from formal to informal, and from statement to argument. Besides, representations of manifest intertextuality and interdis cursivity are the major corresponding results of recontextualization. Also, specific transformations of meanings are realized by strategies such as addition, deletion, and substitution of certain ele ments. It is hoped that this study may provide a new perspective for the studies on political dis course and new media discourse and thereby deepen our understanding of recontextualization and the transformation of meanings,so as to reveal the transmission features and strategies of political discourses in the new media.
