Anglo-American Gothic fictions have an effect of defamiliarization due to their unique content and form. In terms of the story, Gothic fictions observe and expose the cruel reality from different perspectives, including pure Gothic style fictions represented by Allan Poe, Gothic style fictions represented by Hawthorne combined with the social situation then, and Gothic style fictions combined with feminism centered around females. In terms of the form, the closed narrative space and unique Gothic characters make Gothic fictions different from other types of novels.
