Edgar Allan Poe,a 19th century romantic writer, probes directly into the inner heart and soul of human beings in his Gothic stories. He organically combines psychological exploration with moral exploration, making Gothic stories become increasingly internalization and psychology oriented with distinctive postmodernist characteristics.Poe surpasses the limitations of his era and reveals the whole process of post-modern people’s disintegration of the soul:terror from the human soul leads to extreme loneliness and alienation, and once the conflict between ego and superego reaches its peak,it will inevitably result in split personality.
