The Testament of the Biography of Shi Zhenlin

清康乾年间金坛文学家史震林,好读书,喜交友,心性孤介,品行高洁;尚道崇佛,深谙禅理;寓意林泉,娱心翰墨。其诗词画无不超妙,时人称为“四绝”。其作品今仅《西青散记》《华阳散稿》二书传世。前者主要载其乡邑内外游学交友、风俗景物、扶乩游仙诸事,而对农民女词人贺双卿悲苦身世、恶姑暴夫、知音友善、诗词才华、雅士交往、评价反响之诸况记载尤详,影响甚大。后者载其一生游历山水名胜、结交好友、酬答唱和、书信来往之文士雅事,文虽小而析理精,言近微而寓意远,不失为文林之珍品。

Shi Zhenlin, a litterateur living in Jintan of Qing Dynasty, who loved reading and making friends but was with high morals. He admired Buddhism and the beauty of nature and writing. His poems and paintings are superb, which were entitled as "four eminence". Of all his works, only Xi Qing San Ji and Hua Yang San Gao have been passed down till now. The former one mainly recorded anecdotes concerning his learning, friends, scenery, divination, among which, Shi precisely recorded the misery of the female poet, He Shuangqing, including her talent in poetry, intellects-meeting, maltreatment of her husband and mother-in law. The book has a great effect on the late-researchers. On the other hand, the latter book uncovered his own stories about traveling, meeting friends, correspondence which are deep in meaning though short in length, which can be hailed as the treasure of literature collection.
