论《异邦客》凯丽形象的文化身份建构

On the Cultural Identity Construction of Carie′s Image in The Exile

《异邦客》是赛珍珠为母亲凯丽精心撰写的一部传记,也是赛珍珠获得诺贝尔文学奖的七部作品之一。关于传主凯丽形象的文化身份建构,由于其传教士身份、美国文化认同的“异邦客”形象,多元观照下带有鲜明的殖民主义色彩,这与通常印象中赛珍珠的多元文化理念呈现某种背离。为了化解和淡化传主凯丽身上的文化殖民色彩,赛珍珠在叙事主旨、叙事材料、叙事结构与叙述视角上进行了精心选择与设计,对叙事文本进行重构,利用叙述策略对凯丽形象建构不可避免的文化殖民色彩予以淡化,并进行了某种程度的消解,从而在尊重传记事实、历史事实和自己所秉持的多元文化理念方面做出平衡。

The Exile is a biography written by Pearl S.Buck for her mother Carie,it also belongs to one of the seven works that contribute to Pearl S.Buck's winning of Nobel Prize in Literature.Due to the biographee Carie's missionary identity and the image of "an exile" which identifies with American culture,the construction of Carie's cultural identity shows a distinct color of colonialism from the pluralistic perspective,and this phenomenon usually deviates from people's common impression about Pearl S.Buck's multicultural concepts.In order to dispel and fade the color of cultural colonization in Carie,Pearl S.Buck elaborately selects and designs narrative theme,narrative material,narrative structure and narrative perspective in The Exile.She reconstructs the narrative text and uses narrative strategy to fade the unavoidable color of cultural colonization in the construction of Carie's image,and then dispels this kind of color to some extent.Therefore,Pearl S.Buck makes a balance between respecting biographical and historical facts and upholding her multicultural concepts.
