《红楼梦》中有很多关于窗的描写和情节。隔窗通话、窗下窃听和窥视等,作者通过窗边人物不同的表现来刻画人物性格;窗又是一个传统的抒情意象,众女儿在琼楼玉窗的大观园临窗下棋、吟诗作画;窗还贯穿着宝黛二人的爱情。一隅窗边,有红楼女儿的诗情画意,更有豪门贵族内部的暗流涌动和猜忌倾轧。

In The Dream of The Red Chamber,there are many descriptions and plots about windows,such as talking through windows,eavesdropping and peeping under windows,etc.The author depicts the characters’ personality through their different behaviors by the windows.At the same time window is a traditional lyrical image.And the daughters of the grand view garden play chess,compose poetry and paint by the windows.The author intentionally endowed Lin Daiyu,the main character in the book,with a beautiful image of a beautiful woman by the window and narrated the love story between Lin Daiyu and Jia Baoyu.By the window there are poetry and paintings of the females in the red chamber as well as the interior simmering,suspicion and jealousy of the powerful family and honourable nobility.
