我说过很多次,歌剧往往都太长。其实,我还记得自己曾经这样写道:“自从歌剧这门艺术创立以来,从来没有一套歌剧是需要拖得更长的。”今天,这句话被推翻了。我不是指乐评人马克·斯威德(Mark Swed)在《洛杉矶时报》发表过的评论。他认为瑞奇·伊恩·戈登(Ricky Ian Gordon)2007年创作的《愤怒的葡萄》(The Grapes of Wrath)的时长“太短”了,尽管这部歌剧演出的时长已长达四个小时。
