Scientific research instruments are the main tools used to explore and innovate. The efficient use of scientif ic research instruments and equipment in mining engineering specialty can provide strong support for the good development of coal industry in China. This paper discusses the use and management of scientific research instr uments in mining engineering specialty from the fol lowing aspects: the orientation of scientific research instruments, the types of scientific research instruments, the use and management of scientific research instruments, the upgrade of scientific research instruments and the independent development of scientif ic research instruments. Firstly, the orientation of scientific research instruments is positioned, and secondly, the classification of scientific research instruments in mining engineering specialty is elaborated in detail. Suggestions on the use and management are put forward. Finally, the importance of functional expansion and upgrading of large-scale precision scientific research instruments and equipment and independent development to the development of scientific research in China is put forward.
