This study analyzes “Iron Village”, Massacre in Baihe Township, Tainan County (Dian Zai Kou as old name) of early Japanese Colonial Period. First, it compares the records in History of Taiwan Military Police and General History of Taiwan Province and validates that the massacre has occurred in Fang Zi Lin Village (Iron Village). Nevertheless, in two books, it was wrongly recorded as Shang Qie Tung Village;it argues that the massacre was caused by premeditated joint action of Japanese military, military police and police. In order to explain the origin of the massacre, by the background of time, this study analyzes the local factions in Dian Zai Kou at the time and the correlation with policy of the government in order to reveal the cause that Iron Village was thus sacrificed. Finally, since the massacre was neglected and forgotten, this study reflects on “significance of the past” and argues that preservation of important history by hardware construction will arouse historical consciousness and reconnect the gap to reconstruct the continuity of history.
