Objective To explore the use of therapeutic communication in patients with hemiplegia due to traumatic brain injury to improve the acceptance of disability and reduce the burden of self-feeling. Methods Seventy patients with hemiplegia due to traumatic brain injury who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were divided into the Control Group and Observation Group, 35 cases in each group. The Control Group was given general communication while the Observation Group was given therapeutic communication on the basis of the same treatment as the Control Group. Both groups underwent a two-month intervention. After the end of the intervention, the disability acceptance score and self-feeling burden score of the two groups were compared and analyzed. Results The Observation Group had the disability acceptance score significantly higher than the Control Group in terms of the four dimensions including expansion, subordination, inclusion and transformation and the total score. The Observation Group had self-feeling burden score significantly lower than the Control Group in terms of the three dimensions including financial, physical and emotional dimension and the total score, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.01). Conclusion Therapeutic communication can effectively improve the acceptance of disability and reduce the burden of self-feeling in patients with hemiplegia due to traumatic brain injury.
