中国艺术历史悠久且门类众多,而新石器时代玉器是至今仍然能够广泛呈现的艺术形式之一。当时传下来的各种制作形式的玉器,如璧、琮、璜等等,通常被解释成具有重大意义的器物,在天帝神祇的崇拜中承担着其他器物不可替代的作用。所以这种比中国文字形成更早的艺术形式承载了中华民族古老悠长的历史记忆和艺术遥想,也可以说新石器时代玉器制作为中国艺术的滥觞。
