万州历史悠久,文化厚重,巴楚文化、石刻文化、移民文化、寨堡文化、革命文化、商埠文化六类文化形态多元杂糅,共同构成了万州的地域文化。万州以“万川毕汇,万商云集”而得名,商贸发展源远流长,近代商贸业更是冠绝渝东,商埠文化对万州现代城市发展、人文个性塑造影响深远,而且与万州现代经济发展定位高度契合。商埠文化是最具万州地域特色、最易于呈现的文化形态。在当今城市化和全球化的浪潮中,如何保存和延续地方传统文化,使之成为彰显区域特色的要素,成为激发民众自信心、凝聚力和创造力的源泉,值得广泛关注。

Wanzhou has a long history and rich culture. Bachu culture, Stone carving culture, the Three Gorges immigration culture, Zhaibao culture, Red revolutionary culture and commercial port culture have formed a variety of cultural forms, which constitute the regional culture of Wanzhou. Wanzhou was named after “thousands of rivers converged, thousands of merchants drawn”. The development of commerce and trade has a long history. The modern industry of commerce and trade is the top of the East Chongqing. The commercial port culture has a far-reaching influence on the development and the humanistic personality of modern Wanzhou. Furthermore, it is highly compatible with modern economic position and has an influence on the economic development. It is also the most prominent characteristics of Wanzhou, which is the easiest to be performed. In the trend of urbanization and globalization, how to preserve and continue local traditional culture so as to make it a key element to highlight regional characteristics, which deserves the public attention, has become a source of inspiring people’s self-confidence, cohesiveness and creativity.
