东北官话是官话方言的一个分支。从历时角度看,它承继了古幽燕方言,同时又在人口迁移、民族交融等因素的推动下,融合了不同方言及少数民族语言成分。因此,东北官话与辽宁地区的胶辽官话在源流上不尽相同,它并非移民方言,而是在古代幽燕方言的基础上,受山东、河南、河北等汉语方言及东北少数民族语言的影响而渐次形成的,同时还在特定的历史背景下吸收了不少外语词汇,是历时与共时综合作用的结果。
