D. H. Laurence’s Complex of Cosmopolitanism——an Analysis Based on Lady Chatterley’s Lover

当代生活中世界主义已经成为一种共识,它认为每个人思考和行动的出发点是对整个人类的关怀,要求消除等级制度,人与人之间平等相待,和睦相处。世界主义是一种人文主义,它要求人们不仅爱自己的祖国和同胞以至于全世界的公民,还要求爱护包括动植物在内的地球上的其他物种,其诉求的是一种大爱。文章以小说《查泰莱夫人的情人》为例,通过分析作品中的三位主人公和劳伦斯对自然环境的描写,探讨劳伦斯作品中流露出的强烈世界主义意识,揭示他对合理公正人际关系的向往、对人类赖以生存家园的人文关怀及其现实意义。

Cosmopolitanism, which preaches concern for the whole human world as the starting point of every person’s thought and action in the modern world, is becoming more and more important. Basically, it is a kind of humanism and requires purging the caste system and advocates the peaceful co-existence of human beings. A general love, in this sense, is intended to aim at not only the citizen of the world, but also all the other species on the earth, including plants and animals. This paper, based on the analysis of the three main characters and the description of the beautiful natural scenery in Lady Chatterley’s Lover, is a survey of D. H. Laurence’s strong consciousness of Cosmopolitanism, pointing out its humanistic concern for a reasonable and just human relationship, his care for this planet, and hence its realistic value.
