The Cultural Other in Hong Ke’s Novels: A Case Study on The Flame in the Deep of Sun

对关中人红柯来说,新疆文化是立于陕西本土文化之外的文化他者,他在两种文化碰撞下寻求对生命和人性的观察与反省。在《太阳深处的火焰》中,红柯表现出文化他者的创作倾向,通过一系列形象与意象塑造,呈现了草原游牧文化下的生命状态。他从观察异质文化出发,借草原文化中的刚健、阳光和英雄主义,映衬关中文化中的某些消极面,并审视现代城市政治权术斗争下的人性,由此赋予本土文化新的资源价值,以促进不同民族文化的共存与融合。

Hong Ke was a native of Shanxi province, also an ardent observer of Xinjiang culture, with his insightful observation and reflection of life and human nature during the clashes of cultures. The cultural other is reflected in his novel The Flame in the Deep of Sun through a series of images, depicting the nomadic life. The negative aspects of life in central Shaanxi province, political intrigues in modern cities in particular, are contrasted with masculine and heroic characteristics of prairie culture, which may serve as new cultural resources to promote the coexistence and integration of different national cultures.
