The research on Chinese intellectual history of translation is part and parcel for the growth of translation studies,and Professor SHAO Youxue’s New Perspectives on Chinese Intellectual History of Translation is a newly published book in this field. The book,with rich historical materials and a wide range of contents,traces the origin of the research on intellectual history of translation and differentiates broad-sense and narrow-sense "translation thought".Moreover,the author points out that "translation thought" and "translation theory" are not the same thing,and he proposes that the intellectual history of translation should be written according to the occurrence of translation events.The writer of this book review first introduces the book’s main contents and then comments on its merits and defects. It is hoped that the academia will pay more attention to the research in this field.
