李贤《后汉书》注是我国著名史注作品,具有重要学术文化价值。李贤注《后汉书》并非纯粹学术性活动,除了学术因素外,还有政治因素。武则天权势扩张,对太子地位形成威胁,是李贤注《后汉书》的政治背景。为应对武后的揽权威胁,李贤通过注《后汉书》,把文化活动作为政治投资,服务于政治斗争,巩固自己的政治地位。

Li Xian's annotation on "Hou Han Shu" is a famous historical annotation works in China, which has important academic and cultural value. Li Xian's annotation on "Hou Han Shu" was not a pure academic activity while political factors also exist in his annotation besides academic ones. The expansion of Wu Zetian's power posed a serious threat to Li Xian's status as the crown prince, and this was the political background why Li Xian annotated "Hou Han Shu". To cope with the threat of Wu Zetian's arrogation of power, Li Xian made the cultural activity to be as a political investment by annotating "Hou Han Shu" to serve the political struggle and to consolidate his political status.
