During the period of German colonial rule in Qingdao, Werner Lazarowicz, an architect who had been active in the forefront of architectural design and city management, created an aesthetic style with Germanic characteristics through his representative design work, the German Governor's Residence in Qingdao, which was both elegant and popular, primitive and modern, unrestrained and rational. This unique style with collecting widely and making new advances in blending different styles dominates and defines aesthetical keynote of modern architectures in Qingdao. Today, when we are increasingly worrying about the homogeneity of the city, the German Governor's Residence and its influence on the formation of Qingdao's modern urban style is undoubtedly a typical case worthy of our careful study. Current urban designers and researchers may gain some enlightenment.
