The Friendship between Su Shi and the Cheng Brothers from Qingshen, Meishan

眉山青神程氏,苏轼母族,苏轼从小和程氏程之才、程之元、程之邵交游,感情笃厚。苏轼之姐嫁程之才,后不得志而死,由此苏家与程家不相往来。元祐时期,年过半百的苏轼,重拾与程家的情谊,与程之元、程之邵来往。绍圣时期,苏轼被贬惠州,与程之才交往频繁,至此,苏程两家的恩怨在四十二年后终化解。据统计,苏轼诗文中涉及程之才、程之元、程之邵的作品达103篇,这些作品清晰地再现了晚年的苏轼对故乡、故乡亲人的思念以及盼望卜田归隐的迫切心情。

Su Shi's mother was from the Cheng's family in Qingshen, Meishan, Sichuan Province of China and Su Shi had a very sincere and deep friendship with Cheng Zhicai, Cheng Zhiyuan, and Cheng Zhishao, who were all from the Cheng's family since childhood. Later, Su Shi's elder sister married Cheng Zhicai yet died in unhappiness, therefore the Su's family broke off relations with the Cheng's. During the Yu You Period, Su Shi, who had been at his fifties, restored relations with the Cheng's family, and had contact with Cheng Zhiyuan and Cheng Zhishao. During the Shao Sheng Period, Su Shi was demoted and exiled to Hui Zhou, and had a frequent contact with Cheng Zhicai, until then, the resentment between the two families had finally been relieved. According to the statistics, in all of the Su Shi's literary works, there are 103 pieces concerned with the Cheng Brothers, which reflect Su Shi's nostalgia and his strong wish to return to his hometown.
