On Wei Zhoufei’s Biography of Sages of the Past in Runan in Three Kingdoms Period

《汝南先贤传》是较早成书的地方人物传,其书今已亡佚,但所存佚文,吉光片羽,价值不菲。《后汉书》很多列传,都取材于《汝南先贤传》。其书所记民俗、史事,堪与正史记载相表里,可补史之不足,可校典籍之讹误,体现了重要史料价值。其书生动的人物记述、曲折的情节、言简意丰的语言,也体现了很强的文学性,对后世小说、笔记的写法产生了一定的影响。

Biography of Sages of the Past in Runan is a local character biography that was written earlier. Its book is lost,but the remaining essays are invaluable. Hou Han Shu has many biographies,all of which are based on the Biography of Sages of the Past in Runan . The folklore and historical events recorded in the book can be compared with the records of the official history,which can make up for the shortcomings of the history,and the fallacy of the school's classics reflects the value of important historical materials. Its vivid characters,twists and turns,and simple and concise language also reflect a strong literary character,which has a certain influence on the writing of later novels and notes.
