An Exploration of Methods of Chinese Poetics Going Globe:The Constructive Approaches to James J. Y. Liu’s Theory of Jingjie and Its Theoretical Significance

美籍华人学者刘若愚在多年的研究中,将境界一词作为诗歌、文学的基本要素之一,并将其作为建构他的诗观、文学观的一个重要概念。文章归纳、讨论了刘若愚建构境界论的三条路径,指出境界论是刘若愚寻找中西诗学共通性的具体实践,是其为达到“一个可能的世界性文学理论”所做的不懈努力,对中国诗学走向世界的途径探索有积极意义。

James J.Y. Liu thinks of Jingjie as a key element of literature and uses it as the foundation of his literary theories. This paper discusses three approaches that James J.Y. Liu employs to establish the theory of Jingjie. The paper also points out that the theory of Jingjie is a specific practice of looking for similarities between Chinese poetics and western poetics and reflects his efforts for an eventual universal theory of literature. His theory exerts a positive impact on exploring a way of introducing Chinese poetics to the world.
