“何以故”最早出现在东汉,表示对原因的疑问。“何以故”是由表示“为什么”的“何以”和“何故”删略共同成分糅合而成的,糅合的动因是突出说话者的疑问语气。“何以故”的用法在历史中有复杂化倾向。在现代汉语中,“何以故”的使用频率很低,未来有可能会消失。
