On the Types and Contents of the Great Wall Poems of Tang Dynasty

万里长城最初是作为军事防御工程出现的,但在漫长的历史发展过程中,逐渐产生了以长城为主题的文学作品,其中尤以唐代长城诗最为典型。唐代不以修长城为意,但却因诗歌的发达和戍守边疆的社会现实,兴起了以长城为主题的大量边塞诗篇。唐代长城诗的种类繁多,艺术成就很高,根据其内容来说,主要有对秦筑长城的批判,对恶劣战争环境的诅咒,对良将“长城”的赞颂,表达征夫与思妇的思念和对长城周边壮美风光、风土人情的描画。唐代长城诗在中国古代文学中占有重要位置,也是中国长城文化的重要组成部分。

The literary works were produced as the theme of the Great Wall, firstly which was a military project. The Great Wall poems of Tang Dynasty is the most typical ones. The Tang Dynasty didn’t build the Great Wall, but many frontier fortress poems were appeared as the theme of the Great Wall because of development of poetry and the social reality of frontier duties. There are many kinds of the Great Wall poems of Tang Dynasty, and very high artistic achievement. According to their contents, there are criticizing the Great Wall of Qin Dynasty, Cursing the harsh conditions of war, eulogizing the generals, expressing of the army men and missing wife and describing the landscape and local customs around the Great Wall. The Great Wall poems of Tang Dynasty play an important role in the ancient Chinese literature, also an important component of the Chinese Great Wall culture.
