Yoshida Tomio, the translator of Frog , lays emphasis on target text readers reading experience and his Japanese translation has struck a responsive chord in the hearts of Japanese readers. Based on Nida s Functional Theory, this paper analyzes the Japanese version of Frog from information and style to find the translation methods adopted by Yoshida Tomio that have made equivalence possible in his Japanese version. It is hoped that the findings can provide some help for researches on Japanese versions of Mo Yan s novels. Through the comparative analysis of Japanese version with the original text, the paper has summarized the main translation methods adopted by Yoshida and found that functional equivalence was achieved in meaning and style in the Japanese version of Frog .
