Postmodernity in Kazuo Ishiguro’s Novel A Pale View of Hills

后现代主义小说承载了后现代主义理论的核心要素,其时间通常紊乱无序,人物的真实身份被隐藏,对人物本身和对事件的描述大多都是不真实、不确定的。石黑一雄在其早期作品《远山淡影》中通过不可靠叙事体现出后现代主义文学的不确定性;通过描写年轻一辈身上的后现代式叛逆突出后现代社会消解权威、怀疑一切的思想特征。此外,他还对人类在后现代社会中的文化身份认同困境表现出极大关心。别具一格的石黑式后现代写作为文学摆脱"已死"的僵局提供了新思路。

Postmodernist novels inherit the core elements of postmodernist theory,which are disorderly time,hidden true identities of characters,and unreality or uncertainty of the descriptions of most characters and events.In his early novel A Pale View of Hills,Kazuo Ishiguro has represented the uncertainty of postmodernist literature through unreliable narration,emphasized the thought features of postmodern society--dispelling authority and doubting everything by describing the postmodern rebellion of the younger generation. In addition,he showed great concern for identity in postmodern society. Kazuo Ishiguro’s unique postmodern writing style provides a new idea for literature to get out of the "dead"situation.
