In Jack London′s semi-autobiographical novel Martin Eden, individuals of different classes have experienced trauma to some extent and become“others”under the patriarchal culture. Those traumatic experiences play an important role in the portrayal of characters and themes in the novel. From the perspective of trauma theory,by analyzing the physical and psychological trauma suffered by the weak“other”,female“other”,and male“other”in the text,we can view the living conditions of different groups in a male-dominated society and the trauma of patriarchal culture to the“others”of American society in the early 20th century.
