科普文本英译汉中词语翻译的难点及策略

Difficulties and Strategies of English-Chinese Translation of Words in Popular Science Text

科普文本是用来向公众普及科学知识的文本。科普文本涉及专业知识和科学信息,意在揭示和描述客观世界。因此,在科普文本的翻译中,其词语的翻译至关重要。本文在阐述了科普文本的总体特点及翻译原则的基础上,结合笔者自身翻译实践,用实例分析了科普文本英译汉中词语翻译的难点及其存在的问题,并提出了相应的解决策略,即通过专词专译,查、译、证,加注和译意的方法,能有效地解决科普文本英译汉中词语翻译的难题,使译文更准确适切、逻辑清晰,真正达到“普及知识”的目的。

Popular science texts aim to provide subject knowledge and scientific information to public, therefore, the good translation of words in these texts is of great importance. This paper mainly explores the problems and strategies of English-Chinese translation of words in popular science text based on the analysis of the characteristics and translation principles of the popular science text and the author’s translation experience. This paper highlights the suggestions for proper wording in an English-Chinese translation of popular science text, namely one-for-one translation;checking, translating and confirming;translation plus annotation and free translation. These suggestions are to help translators who involve in popular science text translation to improve the quality of translated version of popular science text.
