An Interpretation of “Things Fall Apart” from the Perspective of Post-colonialism

《这个世界土崩瓦解了》是非洲作家钦努阿·阿契贝的代表作,作品兼具风俗小说和历史小说的特点,以主人公奥贡喀沃的一生为线索,反映了非洲原始氏族社会在白人的入侵下渐渐衰落的过程。同时,作品打破以往西方对非洲的污蔑和"妖魔化",书写了真实的非洲形象,也表现了作家对非洲民族发展道路的思考。本文以后殖民主义理论为基础,探讨了殖民入侵与反抗之间的二元对立关系,从而揭示了氏族衰落的原因,并且重塑了一个真实的非洲形象。

"Things Fall Apart"is the representative work of the African writer Chinua Achebe.It has the characteristics of both custom novels and historical novels,taking the life of the protagonist Mr Gong Cob Walter as a clue,reflecting the gradual decline of African primitive clan society under the invasion of whites.At the same time,it breaks the previous works of the West African slander and"demonised",writing the real image of Africa,and also shows the writer think of African national development path.Based on the theory of post-colonialism,this paper explores the binary opposition between colonial invasion and resistance,thus reveals the reasons for the decline of the clan and reshapes a real image of Africa.
