On the Antiphon Poetry of Liu Yuxi and Yuan Zhen

刘禹锡与元稹唱和的黄金岁月是贬居江湘时期。"同是天涯沦落人"的角色定位使他们经常以道义相勉、气节相励。离开江湘以后,他们唱和的频率与热度稍减,却依然不时藉诗鸿寄托闻声思念之情。尽管后来穷达有别、荣枯异路,且元稹饱受非议,刘禹锡却始终感念旧情,在微讽的同时不废友谊,并为其早逝一掬伤心之泪。

The golden years of Liu Yuxi and Yuan Zhen’s antiphon poetry began when Liu Yuxi and Yuan Zhen were exiled in Jiangxiang. As "unfortunate victims of the world", they often encouraged each other with morality and integrity. The frequency of their antiphon poetry decreased after they left Jiangxiang, but they still sent each other poems expressing their feelings from time to time. Even they differed in wealth and fame, and Yuan was heavily condemned by his contemporaries, Liu still recalled their friendship with a subtle irony and shed a tear for his early death.
