How I Spent the Dragon Boat Festival

我方才从南口回来。天是真热,朝南的屋子里都到九十度以上,两小时的火车竟如在火窖中受刑,坐起一样的难受。我们今天一早在野鸟开唱以前就起身,不到六时就骑骡出发,除了在永陵休息半小时以外,一直到下午一时余,只是在高度的曰光下赶路。我一到家,只觉得四肢的筋肉里像用细麻绳扎紧似的难受,头里的血,像沸水似的急流,神经受了烈性的压迫,仿佛无数烧红的铁条蛇盘似的绞紧在一起……

I just came back from Nankou.It was so hot.The temperature in our south-facing house climbed to over 90 degrees Fahrenheit.I got up early in the morning before cocks crowed,and set out before 6 on a mule ride to the train station.With only a half-hour stop midway at Yongling,I was on my way under the burning sun until one o'clock in the afternoon.A twohour train ride followed,which was equally unbearable,as if you were being roasted in an oven.Arriving home,I felt totally done in.My limbs went numb with pain as though bound by hemp ropes.Blood rushed to the head,like boiling water.My nerves were under debilitating pressure as if clamped by numerous red-hot iron rods…
