王安石《唐百家詩選》的編選,既利用了宋敏求家藏的唐人行卷、唐詩总集,也利用了數量衆多的唐詩别集。對其編選宗旨和傾向的探求,既不應忽略其文獻來源,也不能離開王安石文學思想觀念和是書本身。王安石主張爲文應“有補於世”,故所選多關涉社會政治,雖詠史懷古、寫景詠物、抒發閒情逸志之作,亦着眼於其有益於世道人心的一面。是書的編選,因在王安石嘉祐四年上書仁宗而不報之後,心緒低抑,故又多選憂怨不平之作。作爲政治家,王安石重視詩歌的現實作用,强調文要得體;作爲文學家,王安石對曲盡人情物態的作品,往往情有獨鍾:這些也都成爲其選詩的重要標準和特點。《唐百家詩選》編成後,雖爭議不斷,但也産生了廣泛和深遠的影響。

The Selected Poems of 100 poets in Tang Dynasty by Wang Anshi were selected from Song Minqiu's collection of Tang Pedestrion Volumes,collection of Tang poems and a large number of Tang poems.Wang Anshi advocates that poetry creation should serve social politics,therefore,most of his selected poems are beneficial to the hearts and mind of the world.Because this book was compiled by Wang Anshi after he wrote to Song Renzong without due attention,thus there are many works expressing resentment in his poems.Wang Anshi is not only a politician,but also a writer.He emphasized that poetry creation should conform to the poet's own identity and status,and should depend on the occasion and environment,he is fond of works that can fully reveal people's inner world.After compiling the Selected Poems of 100 poets in Tang Dynasty,although controversy continues,it also has a wide and far-reaching impact.
