Third-party punishment refers to the activity that the punisher has the tendency to punish uncooperative behaviors even though he(she) is not affected by. It is an invisible social norm that helps maintain behaviors like equitable distribution, cooperation, commitment, and so forth. Researches show that third-party punishment is affected by various factors like demographic factors (individual s age), individual psychological factors (personality traits) and social psychological factors (group preference). The future research is to explore other influence factors and the different cost of the punishment, and to study the application of third party punishment in the maintenance of social system.
