有唐一代自上而下风行饯别,唐代数量庞大的送别诗反映了唐人送往迎来的风情格调。唐人重视出行,外出一定相伴远送,至于野外歧路、离亭驿站、江河渡头等处,依依惜别。道别讲究仪式,有执手、祖饯、歌唱、折柳等,富于艺术浪漫情怀。分手时相互赠送礼物,既有宝剑、宝刀、铜镜类实用物品,亦有山水花草等自然风物,还有送言赠意表白心志等,个性色彩浓郁。唐代送别诗与饯行民俗极具文化价值。
