《雾都孤儿》中人物会话的社会语言学解读

Sociolinguistic Analysis of Oliver Twist

《雾都孤儿》是英国著名作家狄更斯的第一部批判现实主义小说,发表于1983年。小说以英国首都伦敦为背景,从底层人民的生活百态入手,通过对反面人物的刻画来揭露当时的社会现实。2005年由导演罗曼·波兰斯基将其拍成电影。结合《雾都孤儿》的社会背景,从社会语言学角度对电影《雾都孤儿》中的人物会话从职业、性别、社会阶级等角度进行分析,以帮助观众更加清晰地了解剧中人物的语言使用特点,从而更加深刻地分析剧情。分析结果显示:语言与性别、职业、社会阶级以及教育背景之间存在联系并深受其影响。

Oliver Twist is the first critical realistic novel written by Dickens, a famous British writer, which was published in 1983. The novel is set in London, the capital of England. It starts with the living conditions of the people at the low class and reveals the social reality at that time by depicting the negative characters. In 2005, it was made into a movie by the famous director Roman pannsky. Based on the social background of Oliver Twis t, this paper makes a sociolinguistic analysis of the characters’ conversation in the film from the perspectives of occupation, gender and identity. In order to help the audience understand the characters in the play more clearly and to analyze the plot more profoundly, this paper makes an analysis of the conversation in the play. The results shows that there is language difference caused by gender difference, occupation difference, social class and educational background.
